A3: Role of Angiopoietin/Tie system in controlling vascular morphogenesis and homeostasis
Constitutive Angiopoietin-1/Tie2 signaling is required to maintain the quiescent, resting phenotype of the vascular endothelium. The antagonistic ligand Angiopoietin-2 and the orphan receptor Tie1 serve as dynamically regulated modulators of constitutive Ang-1/Tie2 signaling. Employing a panel of cellular, biochemical, morphoanalytical as well as manipulatory and genetic in vivo experimental approaches, work in the funded project is aimed at molecularly and functionally deciphering the mechanisms of Ang-2 and Tie1 in vascular and tumor biology.
