B5: Role of histone deacetylases (HDACs) for angiogenesis signaling in endothelial cells
Class II histone deacetylases (HDACs) are signal-responsive regulators of gene expression. We identified HDAC5 as a negative and HDAC6 and HDAC9 as positive regulators of migration and capillary sprouting in endothelial cells. Here we aim to address the mechanisms underlying the pro- and anti-angiogenic functions of HDACs. Because HDAC5 represses secreted growth factors and axon guidance factors, we will particularly elucidate the role of HDACs for tip cell specialization and repulsive signaling during angiogenesis. In addition, we will assess the regulation of HDAC activity in response to angiogenic stimuli.
